Learn how to better organize your data.
Tagging is our system for organizing data in your model! When used properly, tags allow you to group multiple metrics together for easy referencing in formulas. If you use our Template Library for adding items you will already have most if not all of the necessary tags in place in your model.
Adding a Tag
To add a tag to a metric simply click on the metric/row and look for the Tags button above your formula bar.

Once you click on the Tags button you will see a pop up window with your Global and Company tags.

- Global tags are the tags that persist across every model in Forecastr. These tags are the main way that you organize data in your model.
- Financial tags are tags that drive the calculations in your Financial Statements. The Revenue Tag, for instance, will connect directly to the revenue line in your Income Statement. You should only use one Financial tag per metric to assure that your statements calculate properly.
- Company tags are custom tags that you can create for your specific model. These might be KPIs such as “Tier 1 Subscribers”, “Marketplace Revenue”, etc.
- You can create custom company tags for your model using the “Create tag” button.

Referencing a Tag
Once your metrics are tagged you will be able to reference them in calculations throughout your model. We will dive deeper into building out full calculations in the “Building a Formula” section, but for now all you need to know is that many of the calculations that you use in Forecastr will in some way connect back to your model’s tags.
If there are two metrics in your model that are both tagged with the “New Customers” tag, you can reference both by referencing that tag in the formula bar. Once you’ve selected that tag (shown below as a green rectangle) you can then wrap another function around it, such as sum() to get the total of all values tagged as New Customers.

Deleting Unused Company Tags
If you would like to “clean up” your unused company tags in the model we have added an option on the company tags page to do so. This feature is only available to Company Admin Users.
