Report Building
Learn how to save frozen-in-time versions of your dashboard widgets to create a shareable report.
Forecastr's report building feature lets you capture and share the data from your model in a polished, easy-to-read format. You can create two types of reports: a Frozen Dashboard that locks your current dashboard view in time, or a Custom Report that gives you a fully editable, PDF-style document. Both can be shared with others inside the app or sent via email.
Accessing Reports
You can access your reports at any time from the Analytics tab inside your model. To create a new report from scratch, use the Create Report button while viewing a dashboard.
Creating a Report
When you click Create Report from a dashboard, you'll be prompted to choose between two report types:
Frozen Dashboard
Takes a snapshot of your current dashboard — tables, charts, and all — and freezes it in time. The data stays fixed so you can share a consistent view with investors, stakeholders, or anyone else, regardless of what changes in the underlying model. You can add commentary to any section, and if you later decide you want more flexibility, you can convert the Frozen Dashboard into a Custom Report or duplicate it.
Custom Report
A fully editable, PDF-style report where you control the layout and content. You can add text, headings, bullet lists, images, and pull in specific charts from your dashboard. Think of it as building a presentation-ready document directly inside Forecastr.
After choosing your report type, select which sheets you'd like to include, give your report a name (or override an existing report), and hit Create.
Working with a Frozen Dashboard
A Frozen Dashboard looks and feels like a regular dashboard — you can view and interact with the widgets just as you would normally. Key things to know:
- Add commentary — Use the commentary box to annotate the report for your audience.
- Convert to Custom Report — If you want to expand the report with additional text or formatting, use the convert button to turn it into a Custom Report.
- Duplicate — Create a copy of the Frozen Dashboard at any time using the duplicate button.
Building a Custom Report
Once your Custom Report is created, you'll land in the report builder. Here's what you can do:
- Add and organize sections — Toggle between sections pulled from your dashboard, add descriptions, and click and drag to rearrange them.
- Add new content — Use the + button or type / (slash command) to insert charts from your model, headings, bullet lists, images, and more.
- Add rows or columns — Expand your layout however you need.
When you're happy with the report, click Publish to make it visible to other users in the model who have access.
Sharing and Exporting
Once published, you have two ways to get the report out:
- Email the report — Choose recipients (from users already in the model), preview the email, add a custom message, and send. The email includes a link for recipients to view the report directly in Forecastr.
- Export as PDF — Click the PDF button to generate a clean, multi-page PDF of exactly what you've built. This option is only available for the Custom Reports.
