Alerts

Find out how to set up alerts in Forecastr to keep you informed of model changes and activity.

Alerts keep you in the loop on what's happening inside your Forecastr model — without having to log in and check manually. You can set up alerts to notify you when a key metric hits a certain threshold, when someone views or edits your model, or simply as a scheduled reminder to review a specific section. Notifications can be delivered inside Forecastr, by email, or both.

Accessing Your Alerts

There are two ways to access your alerts:

From the user icon — Click your user icon in the top corner of any model and select Alerts Inbox. This is your personal inbox showing all alerts that are actively triggering for you.

From the Analytics tab — Click the Analytics tab and look for the alert symbol. Any company admin can access the full alerts section here, including both the inbox and the setup tab.

If you have access to multiple companies, you can also see at a glance which ones have active alerts by checking the Launchpad (click the Forecastr logo). Companies with triggering alerts will be flagged there.

The Alerts Inbox

Your alerts inbox works like an email inbox. Each alert that triggers will appear here with a summary of what fired and why. Unread alerts are highlighted in red. Once you've reviewed an alert, you can clear it from your inbox whenever you're ready.

Setting Up Alerts

Step 1: Set Your Alert Timing

Before adding alerts, you'll want to configure when Forecastr should check and evaluate them. Look for the timing indicator at the top of the Setup tab — this controls what time of day your alerts are evaluated. By default this is set to 10:00 AM Eastern, but you can change it to whatever works best for you.

Step 2: Add an Alert

Click the Add Alert button to create your first alert. You'll see three types to choose from:

Calculation

Use this to monitor a specific metric in your model and get notified when it crosses a threshold or compares to another metric in a certain way. Here's how to set one up:

  1. Give your alert a name.
  1. Choose which scenario this alert should be based on.
  1. Select the metric you want to watch (e.g., Cash, Total Revenue).
  1. Set the condition — for example, "is less than or equal to" a fixed value, or compare it to another metric in your model.
  1. Choose the date range to evaluate (e.g., the next 5 years).
  1. Set the frequency — daily is the most common, but you can choose weekly or pause it entirely.

Example use cases: Get alerted if your ending cash is projected to run out, or check that your balance sheet is always balancing (assets = liabilities + equity).

Model Activity

Use this to get notified when someone views or edits your model. You can choose to alert on views, edits, or both — and filter by user type (employee, investor, or guest) or by a specific individual.

Reminder

The simplest alert type. Write your reminder message, set how often you want it to repeat (daily, weekly, etc.), and optionally link it to a specific section inside your model. When the reminder lands in your inbox or email, you can click the link to go straight to where you need to be.

Step 3: Choose a Delivery Method

Once you've configured your alert, choose how you'd like to receive it:

  • In-app only — The alert appears in your Forecastr alerts inbox with a notification indicator.
  • In-app and email — You'll also receive an email notification. You can preview and customize the email message text before saving.

Then click Create Alert and you're all set.

Managing Your Alerts

After creating alerts, you can view them all in the Setup tab. From there you can sort, edit, or delete any alert at any time. To pause an alert temporarily, just change its frequency to paused.

Email Notifications

If you've chosen in-app and email delivery, alerts will show up in your inbox just like a regular email. Each email includes a link that takes you directly back into Forecastr so you can act on the alert right away.
